About Nonogram
Nonogram, also known as Picross, Griddlers, or Paint by Numbers, is a picture logic puzzle that originated in Japan. The goal is to fill in cells on a grid to reveal a hidden picture using number clues provided for each row and column.
Each number indicates a group of consecutive filled cells. Multiple numbers mean multiple groups that must be separated by at least one empty cell. By using logic and deduction, you can determine exactly which cells should be filled to complete the puzzle.
Nonograms are excellent for developing logical thinking and pattern recognition skills. They range from simple 5x5 grids to complex images spanning hundreds of cells.
How to Play Nonogram
Read the Clues
Numbers on the left tell you about rows, numbers on top tell you about columns. Each number represents a group of consecutive filled cells.
Fill Cells Logically
Left-click to fill cells you're sure should be filled. Use the row and column clues together to determine which cells must be filled.
Mark Empty Cells
Right-click to mark cells with an X when you're sure they should be empty. This helps you visualize the remaining possibilities.
Tips & Strategies
- •Start with rows or columns that have large numbers - they give you the most information
- •Look for rows/columns where the sum of clues plus spaces equals the grid size
- •Mark X on cells you're certain are empty to avoid confusion
- •Use overlapping logic - if a clue must start in one area and end in another, the overlap is guaranteed
- •Check your work frequently - one mistake can derail the entire puzzle
