Stream Copying Preserves the Original Bitstream
When possible, the server uses FFmpeg's stream copy mode (-c copy) to extract the segment without re-encoding a single frame. The video and audio bitstreams are copied byte-for-byte from the source file into the output container, which means zero generational loss, the trimmed clip is bit-identical to the corresponding portion of the original. This also makes trimming dramatically faster than re-encoding, because the CPU is only copying data rather than performing the computationally expensive decode-encode cycle.
